No-show policy for piercers
A no-show policy template written for piercers.
Copy the policy, the message that tells your regulars, and the reply for the day someone doesn’t show. Fill in the brackets, and change anything that doesn’t sound like you. The numbers and notice window below are starting points, not rules.
How no-shows work for a piercer
A piercing appointment is usually short, but the room is already set up for it: sterile supplies out, and often a jewelry choice made ahead of time. A no-show costs the slot and the preparation, and there's no one to talk through a reschedule at the door.
Piercers also see plenty of first-timers who book on impulse, and those are the clients most likely to skip. A clear, friendly rule at booking helps. Many studios ask for a deposit or a card on file. Morningside takes neither, so if you ask for one you collect it yourself.
What a missed piercing costs you
Put in what you charge and how many people miss in a normal month. This is plain multiplication on your own numbers, not a statistic about piercers. The starting price is only an example.
$240a month
$2,880a year, in time you held and couldn’t resell
Starting values only. Change both to your own numbers.
For example, if one piercing is $60 and four people miss in a month, that is $240 a month, or $2,880 over a year, for time you set aside and couldn’t give to anyone else. Enter a typical piercing price. It doesn't count the jewelry sale, which is often a large part of the income from a visit, so the real cost of a miss can be higher.
The policy
This version suggests 24 hours of notice, which is a common place to start for this kind of work. Make it longer or shorter based on how quickly you can refill a slot. Paste it on your booking page, in your bio, and in the confirmation text.
Policy for piercers
I set up for your appointment ahead of time. Please give at least 24 hours notice to reschedule or cancel. A cancellation inside 24 hours or a missed appointment may need [amount] before your next booking. If you arrive more than [number] minutes late, we may need to reschedule.
Anything in [brackets] is yours to fill in. If you charge a fee or take a deposit, you collect it yourself. Pick a number you would actually enforce, because a policy you don’t follow teaches people to ignore it.
Regulars and new clients get different rules
For a returning client who has never missed, give one free reschedule. For someone new who misses a first appointment, ask for the hold amount before booking again.
This split matches what many solo pros already do by hand: grace for people who have shown up before, and a firmer line for strangers. Writing it down just means you aren’t deciding it again in the moment, annoyed.
Telling the clients you already have
Most piercers stall on this part. The rule feels like picking a fight with people who have been coming to you for years. Send this one message to everyone at once, before the policy applies to anybody.
Message to your current clients
Hi [Name], a quick note on scheduling. I'm asking for 24 hours notice to move or cancel, since each appointment is set up ahead of time. If something comes up, tell me and we'll find a new time. Thanks! - [Your name]

Want to adjust the wording?
The no-show policy generator lets you switch between a gentle and a firm tone, change the notice window, and download the policy as an image you can post or print. For what the reminder text itself should say, see reminder texts for piercers. For why reminders matter more than a fee, the research write-up goes through what the published studies do and don’t show.
Questions people ask
Does Morningside take deposits?
Not itself. Morningside never takes or holds payments or stores cards. If you want a deposit, add your own payment link or instructions in settings; clients see it right after they book and you collect it yourself. The reminders and the rebook text work the same either way.
How long should I wait for a late client?
Pick a grace period you can actually keep, write it into the policy, and say what happens after it. A client who knows the number tends to text when running late.
Is 24 hours the right notice for a piercing?
It's a common starting point because piercing slots are short. Treat it as a number to adjust once you see how much you can refill on short notice.
Does Morningside collect no-show fees or deposits?
Not itself. Morningside takes bookings, sends reminder texts clients confirm with one letter, and texts a rebook link after you mark a no-show. It never takes or holds payments or card numbers. If your policy includes a deposit, add your own payment link or instructions in settings and clients see it right after they book; you collect it yourself.
Can I legally charge a no-show fee?
Rules about fees and what counts as agreeing to them vary by place, and this page isn't legal advice. The habit that helps in most situations is the same: write the policy down, put it where clients book, and repeat it in the confirmation, so there is a record that they saw it before the appointment.
A policy only works on the people who read it.
Morningside is a booking page for one person or a small team. Clients pick a time, get a text, and confirm with one letter. When someone misses, you tap once and they get a text with a link to rebook. It books and reminds. It never takes payments, deposits or card numbers.
