A restaurant loses a table at 7pm. By 7:15 somebody else is sitting in it, ordering the branzino. You do not get that. When your 2pm evaporates, the 2pm stays evaporated — and so does 2:30, because nobody in recorded history has booked a three-hour color on eleven minutes' notice.

Why yours is worse than a restaurant's
Two things decide how badly it stings: how long the block is, and how fast you can fill it.
- A 30-minute fade. A walk-in might bail you out. Irritating, survivable.

But a reminder is useless against the other kind. The client who remembers perfectly well, decides at 1pm that a 2pm haircut is simply not the life they want, and cancels.

- Count them. Two weeks, written down. You cannot fix a number you have been carefully not looking at.
- Confirm 24 hours out. One text. Catches most of the forgetters.
- Take deposits on long blocks. If a service eats three hours of your day, it should cost something to skip it. Tattoo artists worked this out ages ago. Long color and full grooms deserve the same courtesy.
- Refill dead slots in minutes, not hours. By the time you have hand-texted three people, the window has quietly shut.
